Is a HIFU Facial Treatment Safe for My Skin?

Have you heard of the HIFU Face Lift?

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound has quickly become the treatment of choice for non-invasive facials. The HIFU anti-aging facial aims to restore skin firmness, collagen production, and skin elasticity. As we age, the production of collagen and elastin decreases, this loss of collagen displays as facial sagging, skin laxity, crepey skin and wrinkles. HIFU works by kickstarting the production of collagen and elastin, to improve the appearance of ageing skin. We perform our HIFU treatments with the Focus Dual, this is one of the few treatments that can reach the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS), previously only accessible via surgery. Deeper layers of collagen fibres are tightened, and the production of collagen is increased. The result is a natural lift with virtually no downtime. That all sounds wonderful, doesn’t it?

You may now be wondering is HIFU safe?

The answer is yes, High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is considered a very safe and effective non-invasive anti-ageing treatment for lifting, firming, and tightening of sagging facial skin.

At The Lynton Clinic, our HIFU Facial treatment is performed by one of our expert practitioners using the Focus Dual: a safe and effective medical grade device. We use the safe HIFU technology on the face to achieve non-invasive facial tissue lifting and to improve skin texture and tone. Focus Dual is our latest option for non-surgical skin tightening, treatments result in an unmatched boost of collagen and elastin for sagging facial tissue.

What, do we mean by medical grade device?

The Focus Dual is Medically CE Certified, meaning that it meets the requirements of the European General Medical Devices Directive. Lynton devices bearing the CE symbol indicates conformity with the relevant European Directive(s) including safety, health, and environmental requirements.  What this means for you is safe treatments. This certification also lets you know that we are using the very best medical-grade devices available and up keeping to the highest of safety standards. At the Lynton Clinic we are committed to delivering safe and effective treatments.

Focus Dual safety profile

Safety Assist Transducers (SAT), unique to the Focus Dual, emit high intensity ultrasound waves in a unique pattern that avoids unwanted overlap in the surface tissues. The safety assist transducers direct the ultrasound energy to a small focal point where high temperatures cause tissue coagulation, sparing adjacent non targeted tissues. What does this mean for you? SATs help to reduce discomfort and downtime for our clients.

Are there any side effects?

There are not many downsides to the Focus Dual HIFU facial treatments – the safety profile is excellent, with results that speak for themselves. During treatment you will feel tingling or minor discomfort. Post treatment you can experience facial redness and slight swelling, this is an effect which displays that the treatment has worked and usually lasts for 24 hours. Side effects rarely occur but, in some cases, people experience tingling for a few days to a week after treatments and bruising or numbness, this dissipates over time. After the treatment it is essential to look after your skin. A good SPF is advised.

Best candidates for the Focus Dual HIFU Facelift

Almost anyone can benefit from the safe and effective Focus Dual HIFU facial treatments. There are some people who cannot be treated due to the nature of this advanced skin treatment. People with an active skin infection, open wounds and visible acne lesions in the treatment area should not be treated. People with pacemakers or other electronic implants are not able to undergo this type of treatment, and those who are pregnant are also excluded.
