FAQs

How is the treatment carried out?

The skin is cleansed and the handpiece is moved over the skin delivering tiny microscopic laser beams. Typical treatment times vary depending on the skin condition and the area being treated, but will range from 10 to 40 minutes. After treatment the skin is cooled. Protective eyewear must be worn during treatment.

How many treatments are necessary?

The number of treatments required is dependent upon the exact type of treatment chosen. The SmartXide offers a ‘Soft Laser Peel’ and a ‘Deep Laser Peel’. A Deep Laser Peel delivers the greatest improvement for lines and wrinkles and loss of elasticity and requires the fewest treatments. However, the downtime post-treatment is longer. Typically, only 1 session is needed, though some people do opt to repeat treatment after six months for further improvement. Milder treatments will require follow-up sessions after 4 – 6 weeks.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are rare but could include a small blister which is superficial and would heal within a week or two. Some clients do experience darkening or lightening of the treated skin which is usually temporary and fades over the following months.

We will provide you with aftercare instructions. Please refer to this for guidance. In the case of a deep peel, you may wish to arrange for a few days off work. It is best not to apply make-up for a few days. It is also important to avoid prolonged sun exposure and you should apply sun protection (minimum SPF 50) every day, whatever the weather.

Am I suitable for treatment?

The SmartXide is suitable for both men and women and can significantly improve the appearance of the skin. The first step in treatment involves a thorough consultation to assess your concerns and ensure you are suitable.

How long does each treatment take?

It takes about 30 minutes to treat the full face. However, some pre- and post-treatment care is required and you will need to be at the clinic for about 2 hours.

What should I expect after treatment?

This varies depending on the intensity of your treatment. You can experience nothing other than mild redness for a few hours, or, in the case of a very deep peel, up to several days of downtime. This downtime may include redness and a feeling similar to sunburn. With a deep peel, it is also normal to experience swelling, particularly around the eyes. Swelling may be present for up to 4 days after treatment. For the first few days following treatment, your skin will form a ‘micro-crust’ and will have a bronzed appearance. The skin will also feel quite tight and it is im-portant that your skin does not dry out (using Vaseline will help to avoid this). The length of downtime will vary depending upon the density and depth of the treatment. We will carefully discuss your treatment goals and expected downtime during a consultation.

How does skin rejuvenation work with the SmartXide?

Our SmartXide laser emits light in a pixelated fashion to your skin creating small columns of thermal injury to the epidermis (top layer of skin) and dermis (second layer of skin). This small amount of injury to your skin tissue stimulates the process of collagen remodelling and promotes elastic tissue formation.

What does the treatment feel like?

You’ll have a numbing cream applied beforehand to enhance comfort. During the procedure, most people feel a mild warmth or tingling as the laser works across the skin. Some describe it as a prickly or heated sensation, but it’s generally very tolerable.

How does SmartXide Bleph work?

The SmartXide Punto CO₂ laser delivers controlled microbeams of energy into the skin, creating tiny thermal zones. This triggers a natural healing response and boosts collagen production, leading to firmer, smoother skin over time. It precisely targets the delicate skin around the eyes without damaging surrounding tissue.

What is SmartXide Bleph?

A non-surgical alternative to traditional blepharoplasty that rejuvenates the eye area by tightening and smoothing the skin using fractional CO₂ laser energy.

When will I see results?

Initial tightening is often noticeable within days, with further improvements developing over several weeks as new collagen forms. The skin will continue to firm and smooth over time.

Is it safe?

Yes – when performed by a qualified professional like Dr Rajani. Protective eye shields are used throughout to ensure safety.

What is the downtime?

Mild redness, swelling or a sunburn-like sensation is common and typically subsides within 4-6 days. Most patients can resume normal activities shortly after, although it’s advised to avoid strenuous exercise and wear sun protection.
