Laser skin resurfacing is one of the most advanced skin rejuvenation treatments available. It is hugely effective as a rejuvenation treatment to target fine lines and wrinkles, neutralise discolouration and pigmentation, smooth out rough textured skin and tighten lax skin.
The treatment is tailored to you depending on your skin type, tone and the degree of facial ageing. By creating tiny micro-spots of ablation (damage) in the epidermis or top layers of the skin, this results in dramatic skin renewal and impressive results. This amazing skin treatment will leave your skin looking smoother, fresher and more youthful. (See also Wrinkle Treatment)

- There are two types of wrinkles: dynamic and static. Dynamic (or active) wrinkles appear when we use muscles to form facial expressions. Static wrinkles develop as we age due to reduced production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.
- Even in the car, you still run the risk of developing sun-related wrinkles.
- Smoking can cause wrinkles and skin damage. Chemicals found in cigarettes can cause damage to elastin and collagen, while the physical act of smoking can result in dynamic wrinkles over time.
- Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light is the number one cause of wrinkles

How is the treatment carried out?
The skin is cleansed and the handpiece is moved over the skin delivering tiny microscopic laser beams. Typical treatment times vary depending on the skin condition and the area being treated, but will range from 10 to 40 minutes. After treatment the skin is cooled. Protective eyewear must be worn during treatment.
What should I expect after treatment?
You will experience a mild sunburnt sensation for a few hours after treatment and the skin may be red for 1 to 2 days. This is a normal sign that the skin is healing at a deep level. Swelling is likely but minimal, and resolves in 2 to 3 days. As the healing process occurs, your skin may have a ‘bronzed’ appearance that lasts from 3 to 10 days, depending on the treatment level. Your skin will naturally exfoliate and may flake as if you had mild sunburn.
What is the consultation procedure?
Prior to treatment you must first undergo a consultation where details about your medical history are obtained to confirm suitability. Before proceeding with treatment you will also be asked to complete a consent form.
Am I suitable for treatment?
ResurFace treatment is suitable for most people and highly recommended for individuals wanting a brighter, more even skin tone, smoother skin texture with improved skin elasticity, a reduction of wrinkles, reduced pore size and improvement to scars (including acne scars) and stretch marks.
How does the treatment work?
Our award winning ResurFACE treatment works by treating minute sections of the skin, which stimulate significant collagen renewal in the treated area. The surrounding non-affected areas of the skin aid the body’s natural recovery process for dramatic results without significant recovery time. As the new collagen cells replace the old tissue the scars reduce in appearance.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are rare but could include a small blister which is superficial and would heal within a week or two. Some clients do experience darkening or lightening of the treated skin which is usually temporary and fades over the following months.
We will provide you with aftercare instructions. Please refer to this for guidance. In the case of a deep peel, you may wish to arrange for a few days off work. It is best not to apply make-up for a few days. It is also important to avoid prolonged sun exposure and you should apply sun protection (minimum SPF 50) every day, whatever the weather.
How long does each treatment take?
It takes about 30 minutes to treat the full face. However, some pre- and post-treatment care is required and you will need to be at the clinic for about 2 hours.
