Melasma Treatement with world leading technology delivered by consultant dermatologist Dr. Rajani Nalluri

Uneven skin tone is one of the most common skin concerns. Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of the skin, most often caused by overactive melanocytes (pigment cells) which produce melanin otherwise known as pigmentation. Melanin is the pigment that gives the body its natural colour. Melasma is a form of hyperpigmentation where the pigmentation is in the deep dermis, deeper than pigmentation caused by sun damage. Melasma most commonly occurs in pregnant women or women experiencing hormonal changes. These hormonal changes typically produce pigmentation on the face area.

With our world-leading devices and medical-grade skincare at The Lynton Clinic, Holmes Chapel our consultant dermatologist Dr. Rajani Nalluri offers melasma treatments that enables us to achieve revitalised skin for our patients. (See also treatment for age spots and sun damage.)

FAQs

What does melasma look like?

The appearance of melasma is slightly different from sun damage, melasma normally presents as blotchy hyperpigmented patches on the face, usually on the forehead cheeks, nose, upper lip, and chin.  Melasma can sometimes be found on other parts of the body, typically those prone to more sun exposure, such as the shoulders. Melasma will normally appear during pregnancy or after hormonal treatment such as the contraceptive pill. Like all types of pigmentation melasma will get worse with sun exposure.

If you are unsure if your pigmentation is melasma or sun damage, our consultant dermatologist Dr Rajani through a skin examination will be able to advise.

What is melasma?

Melasma is a specific type of hyperpigmentation, it is a condition that affects 90% of women. Melasma is differentiated from other forms of hyperpigmentation mainly because the cause is not sun-related, melasma occurs due to hormonal changes within the body. This is why you may hear melasma referred to as “the mask of pregnancy,” as pregnant women are much more likely to have this condition. In fact, melasma is found much more prevalently in women, pregnant or not due to its hormonal cause.

After a bad experience at another laser clinic, I was advised by a friend to see Kirsty at the Lynton Clinic. Kirsty is very professional and extremely knowledgeable. It is clear she has been treating patients for many years. The Clinic is immaculate and all staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. If you need a tattoo removed, then I suggest you book in with the Lynton Clinic.

Chris Clarke

My cellulite had always bothered me. Over time it has got worse to the point where I no longer wanted to wear shorts or skirts. I now feel so much better and I have the confidence now to wear what I want.

Sarah M

Always friendly and easy to deal with.

Leigh, Nantwich

I've been a client of Kirsty's for some time and cannot rate her or the clinic highly enough, Kirsty and the team are professional, knowledgeable, and hugely experienced in laser and skin care, they offer a plethora of solutions to skin and body concerns and generally a lot more than perhaps you initially realise therefore it's worth looking on the website where you'll find an extensive list of treatments, I would not go anywhere else for laser or skincare, I understand they are introducing new treatments in the new year so look forward to trying them!!

Sharon Parkes
