Melasma Treatement with world leading technology delivered by consultant dermatologist Dr. Rajani Nalluri

Uneven skin tone is one of the most common skin concerns. Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of the skin, most often caused by overactive melanocytes (pigment cells) which produce melanin otherwise known as pigmentation. Melanin is the pigment that gives the body its natural colour. Melasma is a form of hyperpigmentation where the pigmentation is in the deep dermis, deeper than pigmentation caused by sun damage. Melasma most commonly occurs in pregnant women or women experiencing hormonal changes. These hormonal changes typically produce pigmentation on the face area.

With our world-leading devices and medical-grade skincare at The Lynton Clinic, Holmes Chapel our consultant dermatologist Dr. Rajani Nalluri offers melasma treatments that enables us to achieve revitalised skin for our patients. (See also treatment for age spots and sun damage.)

FAQs

What does melasma look like?

The appearance of melasma is slightly different from sun damage, melasma normally presents as blotchy hyperpigmented patches on the face, usually on the forehead cheeks, nose, upper lip, and chin.  Melasma can sometimes be found on other parts of the body, typically those prone to more sun exposure, such as the shoulders. Melasma will normally appear during pregnancy or after hormonal treatment such as the contraceptive pill. Like all types of pigmentation melasma will get worse with sun exposure.

If you are unsure if your pigmentation is melasma or sun damage, our consultant dermatologist Dr Rajani through a skin examination will be able to advise.

What is melasma?

Melasma is a specific type of hyperpigmentation, it is a condition that affects 90% of women. Melasma is differentiated from other forms of hyperpigmentation mainly because the cause is not sun-related, melasma occurs due to hormonal changes within the body. This is why you may hear melasma referred to as “the mask of pregnancy,” as pregnant women are much more likely to have this condition. In fact, melasma is found much more prevalently in women, pregnant or not due to its hormonal cause.

Customer Testimonials

Fantastic ... as always!

Lisa, Bramhall

This is my second laser hair removal treatment (bikini and now lower leg). Kirsty is brilliant, always polite, friendly and professional. I would without a doubt recommend the services that you offer at the Lynton Clinic - in fact I regularly do!!

Lucy, Holmes Chapel

I have had a course of laser hair removal on my back at The Lynton Clinic, having suffered with in-growing hairs now for years I wish I had found this treatment earlier. I no longer have to suffer with this problem and I also have hardly any hair left that I have to deal with. I found them to be very professional and would highly recommend this clinic and treatment to anyone

Andrew Godwin

From the moment I walked into reception, to the time spent in the treatment room, I was well looked after.

Amanda Usher , Lynton Clinic Customer, 2015

I have had several fractional laser sessions at The Lynton Clinic on what was very severe post acne scarring to the whole of my back. The scarring varied in severity from slight pitting to large patches (2cm squares) of hypertrophic scars. These scars were approximately 18 years old and something I had just learnt to live with. The treatments were quick and are absolutely tolerable. There was some sunburn type of heat to the area afterwards but pretty much completely gone after an hour or so. The results have been outstanding, the scarring is still visible and will never disappear completely but the difference has been life changing. The confidence I feel to wear clothing and swimwear that reveal that area of my body without feeling embarrassed is amazing. I am hooked and am now curious as what else laser machines can achieve for me!!! Many thanks to The Lynton Clinic Team.

I am currently undergoing IPL (half face) treatment with Stacey to combat Rosacea. This follows targeted laser treatment on deeper thread veins on my face. Stacey is very professional, knowledgeable and kind. She makes you feel at ease. So far so good - I can't wait for the final result.

Paula Tipton

Something I really appreciate when visiting a clinic is great customer service - Emma was extremely professional and welcoming, I felt well looked after from start to end and I had a memorable and pleasurable experience that I am more than happy to share. Highly recommend Lynton clinic for their in depth knowledge and high tech treatments, to help you feel as good as possible about yourself!

I have had several fractional laser sessions at Lynton Lasers on what was very severe post acne scarring to the whole of my back. The scarring varied in severity from slight pitting to large patches (2cm squares) of hypertrophic scars. These scars were approximately 18 years old and something I had just learnt to live with. I never really believed anything could be done about them. We started the course of laser with a curious mind to see what results could be achieved but with very little expectation. The treatments were quick and it is absolutely tolerable. There was some sunburn type of heat to the area afterwards but pretty much completely gone after an hour or so. The area then scabbed and I kept it heavily moisturised with a petroleum for about a week. The results have gradually been improving over a 6 month period with in this time I probably had about 3 treatments. Many thanks to the Lynton Team.
