IMAGE Lightening Skin Peel Experience, from Emma Campbell at Powder Rooms

5th February 2021

After years of having acne and suffering the trauma of acne scarring, along came another problem around two years ago: pigmentation.

Acne can sure leave it’s stamp loud and clear on the skin in the form of pitted scarring and marks. However, it’s been over the past six months that pigmentation has really started to both me more than anything else that acne may have caused.

As my skin is quite severely marked from years of acne, over the summer, the sun starts to bring out the marks even worse. Along with this, whether it’s due to hormones or who knows, sun damage and sun spots also come out quite heavily now too.

The photos I’m sharing here were taken at the end of July when I had been home from my Cyprus holiday for a month. As you can see, I have quite severe bands on my forehead and tops of my cheeks, full of brown patches, red spots, dark brown freckles and overall, just one hell of a lot of skin discoloration and pigmentation.

A few years back, I had met a lovely, super professional skin therapist and expert called Emma, who gave me a course of derma rolling to help me with scarring. When I found out she was now based at The Lynton Clinic in Holmes Chapel, I was eager to see her to discuss if we could improve my now heavy pigmentation.

If you read my blog often, you’ll see that I shared the fantastic results I received from using the lasers even just for a patch test a few months back. Emma tested the lasers on my skin in a bid to remove large pigmentation spots I had on my cheek.

Normally lasers aren’t used on my type of pigmentation (melasma) but as Emma has many years of experience working with lasers, she isolated the area of pigmentation on my cheek and treated with careful settings in order to prevent the rest of my pigmentation becoming worse.

I was sceptical at using lasers to begin me – I mean, we’ve all heard horror stories – but I literally had nothing to worry about! 5 days or so after the patch test, the laser had worked it’s magic on my dark spots and completely cleared them away.

I still obsess over this appointment! For more of my raving on about it, you can read the full review here.

After my first appointment, we decided to give the Lightening Lift Peel treatment by IMAGE skincare a go, in a bid to ease and fade away the heavy pigmentation from the Summer months.

I’d heard of IMAGE before but didn’t know anything about the brand. Emma began by going through the full product range and highlighting the products that would be especially beneficial for my skin, and which ones would also be brilliant to be using alongside having a course of three skin peels.

What is the IMAGE Lightening Lift Peel Treatment?

In a nutshell, this is a lightening facial treatment which works with specialist peels, blending together lactic and kojic acids with a cocktail of lightening agents to reduce pigmentation. It can also be super helpful to ease up the redness caused by Rosacea.

For me, the peels were recommended as a course of three to give lightening and brightening benefits to my dull, brown and red patchy skin. It starts with a deep cleanse and exfoliation, followed by the peel and a cooling mask, along with SPF treatments. I also took the opportunity to have the red LED light treatment after each peel to cool the skin and help kill any bacteria as I still suffer from acne, which only adds to the pigmentation problem.

When taken up as a course of three, I found this facial peel completely helps to create smoother skin, with an overall better tone, and a reduction in redness and sun spots and brown spots. Just look at the before and after photos for proof! I’m majorly excited that my skin is looking so much clearer in the space of around three months.

The Image Lightening Lift doesn’t cause skin peeling or a burning sensation either. It tingles lightly when the peel is applied, but it lasts around 2 minutes and just leaves skin looking a little pink immediately after. You could easily go back to work after the treatment, as there is no skin shedding or peeling straight after.

I would say that on the 3rd – 4th day after the peel, my skin went very dry and was very lightly peeling. I’ve been using the IMAGE skincare SPF 50 moisturiser which is a very thick, creamy consistency which sorted the peeling out right away. It also makes me feel more comforted going out bare faced on the days after the treatment, as it’s SPF 50 blocks any UVA and UVB rays. I’ll be doing a separate review of the IMAGE skincare products I’ve been using this week, so stayed tuned for that!

The IMAGE Lightening Lift can be used to create smoother skin, improve skin tone and reduce pigmentation, in which I was super impressed with how less congested my skin looked after the course. My pigmentation is soooooo much better, I’m honestly so surprised looking back at these before and afters photos.

As well as raving about this course of IMAGE lightening lift skin peels, I know now that if I get dark, deep spots which never seem to shift, I can enquire about the laser service at The Lynton Clinic which work remove the dark spots in just one go.

If you’ve considered skin peels before but don’t know where to start, I would honestly recommend looking for IMAGE chemicals peels, and especially at The Lynton Clinic if you live in Manchester or Cheshire. They are specially formulated to address skin care issues associated with aging and common skin problems, without burning the skin or causing any trauma.

These IMAGE peels are uniquely formulated by internationally renowned chemists working with a board of physicians. Plus, when used alongside the IMAGE products, you get the fastest, more effective results.

I’ve loved pairing the peels up with a full skincare regiment from IMAGE, as I have genuinely fallen in love with the brand. For someone who has pigmentation but also suffers from acne breakouts, the range has been so calming yet also clarifying for my skin.

A huge thank you to Emma at The Lynton Clinic and the team at IMAGE for helping me with this pigmentation journey. I feel so much better in myself when I wear no makeup, and I’m already in discussions about returning to Emma for some further help with my deeper scarring.
